What You Can Get Involved In
Supporting Library Sessions
Help us keep our village library welcoming and well-run. Volunteers assist with shelving books, helping visitors find what they need, listening to young readers, or supporting themed library activities. If you love books or enjoy a calm environment, this is a perfect role.
Helping at Community Events
From fairs to family days to festive celebrations, our events rely on brilliant volunteers. You might help with setup, meet-and-greet, refreshments, children’s activities, or general support. It’s a great way to meet people and be part of Thornton’s most vibrant moments.
Assisting with Classes, Activities & Open Days
We host a wide range of regular classes and community activities. Volunteers can help welcome participants, support tutors, prepare resources, or lend a hand during open days. Ideal for people who enjoy being around others and want to help create a positive atmosphere.
Creative Support (Promotion, Photography & Social Media)
If you’re creative or digitally minded, you can help us showcase the brilliant things happening at the centre. Tasks might include taking photos at events, creating posters, writing content for social media, or supporting our website. A great opportunity for aspiring creatives to build their portfolio.
Behind-the-Scenes (Admin or Maintenance)
Prefer helping quietly in the background? We always appreciate support with admin, filing, room setups, tidying, small maintenance tasks, or helping keep the centre running smoothly. These roles are essential — and perfect for those who enjoy practical jobs or organisation.
One-Off Projects & Seasonal Events
If you can’t commit weekly, that’s absolutely fine. We often need help with project-based tasks — from organising a scarecrow festival to preparing for Christmas events, heritage days, and workshops. You can jump in when you’re able and still make a big impact.
