Thornton is on the outskirts of Bradford. We are close enough for the ease of the bright lights and entertainment, but far enough away to be surrounded by stunning views. The Bronte sisters were born here, there’s St James’ Church, The Bell Chapel, South Square and a stunning viaduct.
And it’s home to Thornton Community Centre.
Since 2018, Thornton Community Centre has been run by a group of volunteers. In 2019, we obtained Charity status, which enables us to keep the centre open and to continue our improvements.
Since then, we have increased the usage of the centre to include many new groups. There are new fitness & wellbeing classes, new opportunities to meet with friends and fellow residents for a chat and something to eat, bring families together for celebrations and provide entertainment with with the Sunday Cinemas, Open Days and Christmas Fairs.
The centre is also home to Thornton Community Library, which has also been run by volunteers from the local area since 2017. The books and other facilities are provided by Bradford Council Library Service.
