We’re inviting all members of the community to attend Thornton Community Centre’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) — a key moment in our
Thornton had an unforgettable moment this May when Queen Camilla visited the village to celebrate the Brontë birthplace. As part of the celebrations, several members of the local community including our own General Manager, Cathy played a special role in bringing the Brontë story to life.
Cathy, who also serves on the Brontë Birthplace Committee, took part in a delightful “Be More Brontë” workshop with local schoolchildren. Dressed as Nancy de Garrs, the Brontë family nursemaid, she helped re-create the 1800s scullery, offering children a hands-on experience of domestic life in the Brontë era. The joy, imagination, and curiosity from the children made the workshop one of the highlights of the day.
We are incredibly proud that several members of our committee, volunteers, and staff were also involved in supporting the visit from stewarding and logistics to dressing in period costume and helping welcome visitors to our village. Their passion for Thornton’s heritage shone brightly, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make the day so memorable.
It was a historic moment for Thornton, and we’re delighted the Community Centre could play its part.
